page is intended as a guideline only. The Horse Forum maintains the right to
change showing requirements at the Fairfax County 4-H Fair each year. Please check
with the Fairfax County Extension Office for current year’s requirements.
Requirements for showing at the
2001 Fairfax County 4-H Fair Horse Show
Exhibitors must:
w
Have a current 4-H enrollment
form on file at the Fairfax County Extension
Office.
w
Submit a "Personal
Health and Medical Record" form.
w
Sign and submit a
"Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Equine Release,
Waiver, and Indemnification" form.
w
Sign and submit the
"Fairfax County 4-H Program Code of Conduct".
w
Submit a completed
"Eligibility Card" (Exhibitors submit a new "Eligibility
Card" each year they show their project animal).
w
Submit a copy of the
"Horse Measurement Card" for each project animal. (A permanent 4-H
measurement card for horses and ponies over the age of 5. Animals under the age
of 5 years are re-measured each year.)
w
Submit a current negative
"Coggins Test" for each project animal.
w
Meet the Age Requirement.
w
Begin working with the
project animal(s) by May 1st of the current 4-H year.
w
Submit a completed Fairfax County
4-H Fair Horse Show Entry Packet by the due date.
w
All 4-H Horse Project members
of all disciplines must wear helmets that are ASTM approved for equine
activities when mounted.
w
Attend one Horse Forum Meeting
and complete one approved County-Wide 4-H Activity.
w
Either attend a second Horse
Forum Meeting, or complete a second approved
County-Wide 4-H Activity.
w
Submit a Horse Project Book.
w
Satisfy any club
requirements to show at the 4-H Fair with that club.
Age Requirement
Members of the 4-H Horse Program
are aged 9 to 19 years (as of September 30 of the current 4-H year). The 4-H
year runs from October 1st through September 30th. Membership is voluntary and
free of charge. Enrollment forms are available at the Fairfax County Extension
Office. In some instances activities may be limited to particular age ranges
for safety. Youth aged 5-8 may not work with large animals and cannot
participate in the 4-H Horse Program.
